Coursework toward Added Endorsements
Current teachers who hold a valid Colorado teaching license can add a second or subsequent endorsement to their teaching license in various content areas by completing the Colorado Department of Education requirements. To earn an added endorsement, a student must either;
-
Complete 24 semester hours from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution with a maximum of six semester hours of documented professional development or work experience
Or
-
Pass a PLACE exam within the chosen content area; CSU offers coursework and professional development opportunities toward the first option
Endorsements are also one way for secondary education teachers to show Highly Qualified Teacher Subject Matter Competency within the state of Colorado.
Important Note: The Colorado Department of Education is the sole issuer of added endorsements, not CSU, and is the authority on how coursework, experience, and professional development apply to content areas. Coursework listed by endorsement area is only suggested; you will need to submit an added endorsement application to the Colorado Department of Education to learn if your cumulative accomplishments in coursework, experience, professional development, and testing apply to your content area.
As part of this application process, the applicant is responsible for proving competency to CDE in the endorsement area they are seeking.
