With a Supervision Course and Refresher Course taught by industry renowned Dr. Toni Zimmerman, distinguished teaching scholar, director of the COAMFTE Marriage and Family Therapy graduate program, and Human Development and Family Studies faculty at Colorado State University.

AAMFT-Approved Supervision Course (in-person)

Learn about effective supervision and discuss the latest scholarly research on the training of therapists in the classroom followed by hands-on experience. Where you will participate behind a one way mirror in the newly remodeled CSU Center for Family and Couple Therapy, actively supervising live cases with individuals, couples, and families.

The Supervision Course curriculum covers:

  • Major models of Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) supervision, including philosophical assumptions and pragmatic implications
  • The co-evolving therapist-client and supervisor-therapist-client relationships
  • Challenges in therapist-client and supervisor-therapist-client relationships
  • Ethical and legal issues related to supervision
  • Requirements and procedures for supervising trainees for AAMFT Clinical Membership

For current supervisors looking for a refresher on AAMFT standards, this five hour course reviews:

  • Current supervision literature
  • Ethical and legal issues in clinical supervision and supervision mentoring
  • Supervision contracts, including the process of developing contracts and the elements that should be addressed
  • Cultural, gender, and socioeconomic issues in therapy and supervision
  • Current standards for becoming an Approved Supervisor and role of the Approved Supervisor mentor
