Sustainability training for community development workers

Efforts to improve standards of living in communities around the world — especially those in developing countries — can benefit substantially from knowledge of sustainable management and use of resources. Whether you are employed by a non-governmental organization, the Department of Defense, or another entity, Colorado State University's graduate certificates in applied global stability will build your capacity to implement environmentally sustainable practices.

Choose from three topic areas

Offered by CSU's School of Global Environmental Sustainability (SoGES), courses in these programs are taught by experts in environmental science and agriculture. Certificates are available in three topic areas: agriculture, natural resources, and water resources.

The courses teach practical skills that immediately can be applied to improve social, economic, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.

Completing any of the three graduate certificates in applied global stability will enable you to:

  • Place your work and discipline within the context of global sustainability.
  • Better address interactions among agriculture, water, and other natural resources.
  • Understand how social and cultural factors affect what different populations consider to be sustainable, and how scientific, sociological, and economic factors affect potential mechanisms to achieve sustainability

Who will benefit from earning these certificates?

These programs are designed for senior non-commissioned officers and mid-career officers in special operations and civil affairs units, others employed by the Department of Defense, US Agency for International Development, or Peace Corps, and other professionals who seek to meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Most students work in the field to improving people's lives through the development of sustainable environmental practices.

Students should be comfortable with independent work and have an academic or professional background in topic areas related to these certificates.
