The four-lesson Understanding Diabetes training program provides in-depth explanations of diabetes-related concepts presented in the Dining with Diabetes (DWD) curriculum, including the biology of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its complications, management strategies, and meal planning. Based on content and design of the course, participation and completion of the Understanding Diabetes program is expected to enhance agent knowledge and confidence, leading to improved implementation of DWD.
Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.

Jessica Clifford is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and an Extension Nutrition Specialist in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Colorado State University. Jessica’s primary focus is the translation of nutrition and health related research and evidence-based practices into application for the public. Incorporating nutrition education, food preparation instruction, and strategies for behavior change, she aims to help people adopt and maintain healthy lifestyle habits for improved health. Jessica partners with internal and external colleagues of land grant institutions, state agencies, and a robust registered dietitian network for greater impact. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior and participates in the Colorado State Nutrition Action Council. Jessica received a B.A. in German and Economics from University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire; an M.A. in German, focusing on food culture in an international context from Bowling Green State University/University of Salzburg; and finally her M.S. in Human Nutrition from Colorado State University.
