Build effective and efficient system engineering models by developing the skills needed to deploy the Systems Modeling Language (SysML). Learn essential syntax for all nine SysML diagrams, while building a cohesive model that communicates systems engineering information. The use of modern systems engineering software packages enable project-based learning through the development of models of industrial applications.
Requirements for current CSU undergraduate students: Senior standing. Completion of AUCC Cat 2 with a minimum grade of B.
Calculus I or equivalent course or experience (at CSU these courses are: MATH 141 or MATH 155 or MATH 159 or MATH 160.)
SYSE 580B1 can apply toward the SE ME or MS, but not a doctoral program (SE PhD or DEng).
This course will be taught by Dr. Adams and co-instructors from Studio SE.
Assistant Professor of Systems Engineering
Dr. Adams has 20+ years of systems engineering experience in Department of Defense, satellite and aircraft systems, and, in-process, diameter and thickness gauging systems. He is an INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP).
Dr. Adams was a Systems Engineer with Lockheed Martin Corporation working primarily at the Boulder-area facilities on the Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) ground segments (Space Based Infra-Red Satellite (SBIRS) and Next Generation OPIR). He also supported other Lockheed Martin programs for the Space Defense Agency and NOAA. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 2023.
Dr. Adams has a diverse set of systems engineering experiences including as the customer for major satellite systems components, as the manager of a systems engineering team constrained by cost and schedule limits, as an associate chief engineer for a major segment supplier, and as the global, in-field, sales and engineering representative of niche measurement systems.
His career is characterized as bringing together diverse customer needs into consolidated product requirements, innovating approaches and solutions, and confirming satisfaction with delivered capabilities.
