JTC 572 - Corporate Web Design and Management

Ready to strengthen your web design skills and build work you can showcase on your resume? This hands-on course develops students’ ability to design and manage user-centered websites with a focus on usability and user experience. Building on foundational knowledge, students apply principles of web design and digital content development through project-based learning. By the end of the course, students will design, develop, and evaluate a fully functional website using current industry standards and best practices. This course emphasizes real-world application, enabling students to move beyond foundational knowledge to independently create, assess, and refine user-centered digital experiences.

Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

  1. Apply web design principles and usability standards to enhance their web design and content development skills
  2. Identify user needs to inform website structure, navigation, and content strategy 
  3. Design and develop web pages using HTML and CSS that meet current web standards and best practices
  4. Implement search engine optimization (SEO) strategies and incorporate web graphics to enhance site performance and engagement 
  5. Evaluate website effectiveness based on accessibility, usability, and user experience principles 
  6. Create a cohesive, functional portfolio website that demonstrates effective content organization, visual design, and technical execution

Prerequisite

JTC 502 (concurrent enrollment in JTC 502 is allowed; request an override from your advisor).

Important Information

Please note: JTC 572 – Corporate Web Design and Management is offered as a 3-credit course in Summer 2026. In Fall 2026, JTC 572 – Web Design and Content Management is offered as a 2-credit course.

Patti has been an online instructor for the Department of Journalism and Media Communication since 2008 and brings more than a decade of experience in web design, instructional design, content development, editing, and project management. As a proud first-generation college graduate, Patti is especially committed to supporting students in achieving their higher education goals.

Her professional background spans higher education, nonprofit, and corporate settings, where she has led work in instructional design and digital strategy. She is also currently engaged in AI research and training. In addition to teaching at CSU, she has served as an Instructional Designer and Web Designer in the University of Delaware’s IT Department, taught Web Design and Editing at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Rutgers University, and worked as Assistant Director and Website Manager for the Department of Career Services at Rutgers University.

Patti earned an M.Ed. in Education and Human Resources, with a certification in Adult Education and Training, from Colorado State University and a B.A. in Psychology, with a minor in Communication, from Rutgers University.
