ECE 581C3 - Introduction to Power System Markets

Economic theory and structure of market operations in deregulated electric power systems, with an emphasis on U.S. independent system operators (ISOs). Core topics include participant behavior in electric power markets, competitive auctions, system security and reliability, ancillary services, and investments in generation and transmission in addition to power system optimization, demand-side management, and calculation of carbon emissions.

Prerequisite

ECE 461 (Power Systems); Credit allowed for only one of the following: ECE 508, ENGR 508, or ECE 581C3; Junior standing.
