CON 580A3, Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Techniques is a new graduate level course designed to strengthen managerial and research skills of graduate level construction management and engineering students through the use of modern approaches to multi-criteria decision-making.

This is a multi-site course with multiple modalities. It is co-taught by Dr. Mehmet E. Ozbek (Professor and Joseph Phelps Endowed Chair in the Department of Construction Management at CSU) and Asli Pelin Gurgun (Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey; also a faculty affiliate at CSU).

Asli Pelin Gurgun is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Yildiz Technical University (YTU), Istanbul, Turkey. She has received her Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and taught courses at the undergraduate and graduate programs. Her research interests include risk management, project management, decision making, sustainable structures, public-private partnerships and technology use in construction industry. Dr. Gurgun was a visiting research scholar at Northeastern University, Boston. Before joining YTU, she worked as an executive manager in a consultant company and coordinated projects in a variety of sectors such as construction, logistics, education and finance; participated in preparation of seismic retrofit projects of several public and private buildings; and coordinated several construction projects in Russia. She collaborated with colleagues from various institutes in Turkey, USA, and several European countries, and published in peer-reviewed journals, conferences and book chapters.

Dr. Mehmet E. Ozbek is a professor and the holder of the Joseph Phelps Endowed Chair in the Department of Construction Management at Colorado State University (CSU). He also has a courtesy appointment in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. He is an affiliated faculty of the Center for Sustainable and Intelligent Transportation Systems as well as the School of Global Environmental Sustainability at CSU. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on Construction Engineering and Management. Dr. Ozbek’s research areas include infrastructure asset management, performance and productivity measurement and improvement, sustainable infrastructure, construction contracts, and service-learning. He has received grant funding from Federal, state, and private entities; and he has published extensively to disseminate his research in peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Ozbek has taught courses at the undergraduate and graduate programs, including a service-learning course and a study-abroad course.
