Explores the broad anthropological and historical trends of the ancient Mediterranean world via the themes of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll (performance) through multiple ancient cultures (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome). Approaches this world via important archaeological topics that contextualize the historical, religious, economic, and socio-political trends, influences, and impetuses to come to a holistic understanding of what it meant to live in this world from c. 3000 BCE to 300 BCE.
This course meets the All-University Core Curriculum (AUCC) requirements for Historical Perspectives (Category 3D) and is approved under gtPathways in the content area of History (GT-HI1).
Prerequisite
Credit not allowed for both ANTH 261 and HIST 261.
