Drop and Withdrawal Policy for Credit Courses

Review the following policies and procedures if you wish to drop or withdraw from credit courses. Each course has two associated deadlines: a drop deadline and a withdrawal deadline. You can find specific course deadlines on the CSU Online course description page and your registration confirmation.

Confirm the deadlines associated with your course(s) to determine which of the following policies apply to you:

Note: If you wish to drop a noncredit course, review the Drop and Refund Policy for Noncredit Courses.

Dropping a Credit Course

Consider the following before dropping your course(s):

  • You will be billed for any course(s) you register for and must take action to drop or withdraw from the course(s) if you will not be attending. If you need assistance removing yourself, please contact csu_online_registration@Mail.Colostate.edu.
  • Non-attendance (not participating in a course) does not automatically drop you from the course and it does not relieve you of the academic consequences or the cost of tuition and fees.
  • Changes made to your class schedule may impact your financial obligation to the University and your eligibility for financial aid. Contact the Office of Financial Aid to discuss the impact to your financial aid.
  • If you are dropping your last or only course of the fall or spring term, review the Semester Withdrawal policy below.

If you wish to drop your course(s), complete the following steps:

  • Log in to RAMweb
  • Click "Menu" and select "Registration" under the "Registration" heading

  • Select the appropriate term and click “Continue”
  • Next to the course(s) you wish to drop, select "Drop CSU Online Crse-NoAssess" under the "Action" column
  • Click "Submit"

Refund Eligibility

Course drops made prior to the deadline specific to your course will result in a 100% refund of tuition.

  • Refunds are processed automatically if you are an undergraduate enrolled in at least 12 credits or a graduate student enrolled in at least 9 credits. Refunds for students enrolled in fewer credits than those listed above are not processed until after census. For the summer semester only, refunds are processed within 48 hours.
  • Refunds are sent by direct deposit or mail. Sign up for direct deposit in RAMweb. If you have a balance less than $50 and are not signed up for direct deposit, contact the Office of Financial Aid to request a refund.

Withdrawing from a Credit Course

Consider the following before withdrawing from your course(s):

  • When you withdraw from a course, the course and a grade of 'W' will appear on your transcript – this has no effect on GPA.
  • Non-attendance (not participating in a course) does not automatically drop you from the course and it does not relieve you of the academic consequences or the cost of tuition and fees.
  • Any changes made to your class schedule may impact your financial obligation to the University and your eligibility for financial aid. Contact the Office of Financial Aid to discuss the impact to your financial aid.
  • If you are withdrawing from your last or only course of the fall or spring term, review the Semester Withdrawal policy below.

Semester Withdrawal

If you wish to withdraw from all courses in fall or spring term, you must complete a Semester Withdrawal Application in RAMweb.

Consider the following before withdrawing from your course(s):

  • By completing a Semester Withdrawal, you will be removed from your degree program. It is important that you speak with your department advisor about the impact a Semester Withdrawal may have on your degree and academic requirements.
  • A Semester Withdrawal does not eliminate your financial obligations to CSU. You are responsible for any charges owed to the University at the time you withdraw. A Semester Withdrawal will impact your financial aid.

If you wish to withdraw from the Semester, complete the following steps:

  • Log in to RAMweb
  • Click "Menu"
  • Click "Registration" to access a list of options
  • Click "Semester Withdrawal" at the bottom of the list
  • Follow the prompts to complete your application

Your application will be processed and you will be notified when it is complete.
