Description of the various objects found in the heavens as well as the principles and techniques employed in investigations of these objects. Topics include: the sky and its motions, physical laws, stars, planetary systems, and astrobiology.
Students requiring lab credit should also take AA 101 – Astronomy Laboratory.
This course meets the All-University Core Curriculum (AUCC) requirements for Biological/Physical Sciences (Category 3A) and is approved under gtPathways in the content area of Natural and Physical Sciences without Lab (GT-SC2).

Emily Hardegree-Ullman is a professor of Astronomy and Physics at Colorado State University and is the Director of CSU's Madison-Macdonald Observatory. She earned her BS in Astronomy from the University of Arizona and her PhD in Multidisciplinary Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where she conducted research in the field of Astrobiology.
